Paleo Kim’s 21 Day Sugar Detox Journal Entry – DAY 3

Woke up at 8 am and went down to make some coffee, as I was waiting for it to brew NonpaleoMark came down and said “you do realize it is only 7 right?” You screwed me again DST!! Oh well, since I was up I did the crossword, the Sudoku and read the comics and tried to see what was funny in any of them but could not while I waited for my coffee to kick in. Hubby wanted to go out for breakfast but I made him wait while I went to the 9:30 Ashtanga class. 75 minutes of stretchy fun – FYI – DON’T EAT before you go to one of these classes – I have made that mistake before…not pretty! Got home and changed and went for breakfast. I stunk – and so I pointed this out and the only response I got was “And that’s different how?” Now that is true love…going out in public with someone who just worked out, didn’t shower and has no make up on…

BREAKFAST: Broadways was super busy and I was informed many times that it wouldn’t have been nearly as busy if we would have went earlier so it seems that NonpaleoMark is a victim of my yoga. I do have to say that the clientele that comes in for breakfast at 11 is a lot different then the ones who go at 9. The 11 o’clock people look WAY more hungover and are on average 10 years younger. Anyway I ordered two eggs over easy with bacon well done – I asked them to hold the home fries (sob) and the toast and give me lettuce and tomato instead – to make up for the loss of home fries I ordered an extra side of bacon.

LUNCH: Because we ate so late earlier I skipped lunch (I know – not good) but I put some Brussell Sprout chips in the oven on broil for a quick snack. Took the dogs for a walk – only made it 4.94 kms but it was in the forest so there was a lot of up and down.

KIM’S SUPPER: It was my step-father’s 70th birthday party so of course the best place for it was…you guessed it – an Italian restaurant..lucky me! While my cousin next to me had zucchini sticks and lasagna I had lemon filet of sole with veggies and instead of rice I asked for a house salad without dressing. My drink pairing was a continuously filled lemon water. While everyone had a huge piece of cake that looked absolutely delish, I drank a black coffee and filled up on smugness – not very filling…

FAMILY’S SUPPER: Non-Paleo Mark ordered Chicken Fettuccine with a side of Caesar salad, bread and butter and washed it all down with a couple of Stellas – I only mention this so you can share in my pain. Oh yes – he ate a huge piece of cake and kept smiling at me and asking me if I wanted a bite…he’s so supportive….

SNACK: I cut up a green pepper and took half of it and dipped it in some almond butter. I am eating it now while I watch the Walking Dead! So g’night!

Paleo Kim’s 21 Day Sugar Detox Journal Entry – DAY 2

Woke up at 8 am because my husband – let’s call him Non-Paleo Mark – tried to be quiet getting ready for work (obviously unsuccessful) so I rolled my butt out of bed and got dressed, drank half a cup of luke-warm coffee that was left in the pot and decided to walk the dogs. I was aiming for a 1 hour good paced walk NOT…E- if you want to walk or learn to run and want to track the routes you take, time, even elevation and you have an iPhone I would suggest the free app Runkeeper. It doesn’t let you map your route beforehand but it keeps track of where you went – According to Runkeeper, I walked for 1:01 hours, walked 5.3 km and burned 392 calories all while listening to my music on shuffle. Can you believe that hearing “Take a Chance on Me” by ABBA immediately after “For Whom the Bell Tolls” by Metallica doesnt sound as weird as you would think. Runkeeper even gave me a medal screen because that was my personal best – it’s nice like that!

 

BREAKFAST: Sautéed up a shallot with some sliced white mushrooms, red pepper strips, and spinach in olive oil. once that was done I moved them to a plate and cooked two eggs over easy in the same pan and then put a bit of hot sauce and salt on. Had more coffee – yes the same crappy cold coffee I left to go walking over an hour before. LUNCH: Put one of the chicken breasts I made last night in the oven on broil and grabbed a handful of the salad I made the night before too. No dressing. I have noticed lately that I really like to eat with my hands and dressing just makes it messier.

KIM’S SUPPER: Right after breakfast I started to prep stuff for my supper which was Coconut Curry Lamb and Beef Meatballs – recipe from Eating for Idiots. You get this going a couple of hours before so it can simmer for a while (this is a good Saturday / Sunday meal for us working folk) and I riced up a head of Cauliflower and put it in the fridge. Once it was supper time, I took some cauliflower rice from the fridge, put some meatballs and sauce on top and throw in the nuker for 3 minutes.

FAMILY’S SUPPER: Curried Chicken with rice. I made this at the same time as I was prepping my curry.

SNACK: Brussell Sprout Chips from Nom Nom Paleo– so good and salty and crunchy! The BS haters in my house (which is everyone but me) complain and whine for hours about the smell – oh well – that just happens to be a bonus – my little bit of payback for making me make another meal (I know – I am a petty, petty person). I think I am going to make some tea with lemon then put it in the fridge so i can have something cold to drink besides water tomorrow.

Paleo Kim’s 21 Day Sugar Detox Journal Entry – DAY 1

6 am Hot Yoga class with Paula at Yogatown – yes she loves plank then off to Starbucks to get a Venti Bold – black before work
BREAKFAST: I was too lazy to make anything ahead of time so breakfast consisted of chicken from the fridge which I know has been there for a while – how long I’m not sure so I only ate a bit t…o see if my stomach would revolt – it didn’t so yea me! Along with a cup of 7 superfood salad sans dressing
LUNCH: Great Thai food place on Somerset called Pho Bo Guy La. We go there at least once a week and I order the vermicelli without vermicelli (I know – they looked at me that way too when I first ordered it but it comes with cabbage, pickled cabbage, bean sprouts, cucumber, lettuce and chicken) – no peanuts, no fish sauce.
KIM’S SUPPER: Jalapeno Dijon Chicken (I would lick this sauce off the floor if I had to – that is how much I love it and how dramatic I can be – thank you Civilized Caveman for that awesome recipe) (no honey – since I am on the detox) with salad (the remainder of the 7 superfood salad mixed with romaine lettuce, red pepper, Lebanese cucumbers and topped off with Farmboy’s Lemon Garlic dressing which only contains two things – you guessed it – Lemon and Garlic… and Olive Oil – okay three things for those who were actually counting. I have to tell you though that we lost power from 4:30 to about 7:30 so i did all my knife work by candle light and strangely enough it was not snowing or hailing so I BBQ’d the chicken
FAMILY’S SUPPER: Hot Dogs – they were happy so I said nothing and just smiled at them and their clogging arteries

Paleo Kim’s Introduction

Hi everyone,This is Passion for Paleo’s sister Kim – Keri has asked me to come on a post in order to make me more social about my Paleo and my efforts involved to be all “Paleoy”. Since I started a 21 day sugar detox and I am doing the plank challenge as well and because misery loves company, I agreed to post once a day if I could (or felt like it – I am the older sister you know so I refuse to give her what she …wants).

Here is some simple addition that results in me:
Add the following: Always relatively active (scuba instructor in my twenties / went to the gym once in a while ) + Quit smoking twice + Hate cooking so quick and convenient meals for me and the family it is = a 43 year old woman who never thought she would have weight issues but realizes she needs to do SOMETHING!
Over the last 10 years I went on weight watchers and never really seemed to lose – I tried Herbal Magic which did work until I stopped buying their ridiculously expensive pills. Fast forward to last March when I started my Paleo diet (scratch that – life style change) to lose 50 – 60 lbs. It was easier than I thought even though neither my husband or son eats that way (I now make two meals most nights!) but I am down almost 40 lbs.
Everyone I know tells me I look great and I am vain enough to want to keep hearing it but what truly makes me feel great about myself is that I refound my love for yoga (Ashtanga especially) and I am stronger and more fit than I have been since before I met my husband (some of it is still hiding under a bit of fat but the muscles are there)! Whole 30 Day 24: A New Way of Living

Whole 30 Day 24:

This has been easier than I originally thought and I am so glad I did this! I have discovered new foods, the joy of ice cold water and am beginning to enjoy exercising (I NEVER thought I would say that! EVER!), but there’s something about sweating from every pore that gives me a sense of accomplishment…and that makes me proud. I am undoing many years of bad habits and a poor lifestyle day by day. Please if you are on the fence about either Paleo, doing a Whole 30 Challenge or a 21-Day Sugar Detox, just do it. It’s ONLY 30 days and I promise you, your life will be changed & your eyes will be opened to a whole new way of LIVING!
